Rita M. Richardson

Rita received a B.A from Concordia University in 1985, and her L.L.B from McGill University in 1989. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1990 and the Manitoba Bar in 1991. Rita obtained a Certificate in Pension Law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2013.  

Rita is ready to assist you with all manner of family law matters, such as pre-marital or cohabitation agreements, separation and divorce, parenting arrangements, and child and spousal support matters. Clients have benefited from her pensions and benefits knowledge as well as her family law expertise. Rita also provides other lawyers and their clients with litigation and mediation support when dealing with these issues. She is regularly called in as a subject-matter specialist in Pensions and Benefits in Collaborative Family Law matters. Rita is also regularly retained to deal with Pension and Benefits issues in employment and estates law matters.

Few people in Alberta have Rita's combination of expertise and she is frequently called upon to give educational seminars and presentations for lawyers, pension administrators, and consultants who participate in legal reform initiatives in this area.

Rita has been a member of the Program Committee of the Canadian Pensions and Benefits Institute (Alberta South), a member of the National Judicial Compensation Committee of the Canadian Bar Association, and a member of the National Fundraising Committee for the Legal and Education Action Fund (LEAF). She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Children's Legal and Educational Resource Centre (CLERC) where she is also the Chair of the Legal Advisory Committee and a member of the Human Resources Committee
